ABOUT US > CANCERBACKUP ANNUAL REPORTS > 2000 - 2001 > AWAREAware
Advisory and research committees give us expert advice in planning and developing CancerBACUP services. The 54,549 enquiries answered last year gave the cancer information specialist nurses a unique insight into the issues that matter to people affected by cancer.
The Medical Advisory Committee works with the cancer information specialist nurses to produce clear summaries and guidance for health professionals on difficult and controversial cancer topics. The Research Committee guides important research into the needs of people affected by cancer and the extent to which CancerBACUP is meeting them, which enables us constantly to improve the service.
Support from these and other sources helps to guide the development of new publications and other services. CancerBACUP’s Medical Editorial Board of 21 specialists in different aspects of cancer and its treatment meet regularly and review the text of new and updated publications. They ensure the medical accuracy of the 56 booklets and 93 factsheets, and help the editorial team to ensure CancerBACUP’s written information is up-to-date, clear, and frank but sensitively expressed.
