- at St Bartholomew’s, Charing Cross and the Homerton hospitals in London;
- in Kendal, supporting widely dispersed communities around Cumbria;
- at the UK’s largest cancer centre, the Christie Hospital, in Manchester.
People’s need for information and support when they are affected by cancer takes many forms, and CancerBACUP aims to meet those needs in all appropriate ways.
In recent years, new local centres offering face-to-face contact, information and advice have expanded CancerBACUP’s service. The five new local centres opened in 2000-2001 bring the total to eight and represent an important alternative means of obtaining our information and support.
Each centre is staffed by an information nurse specialist. It is equipped with the full range of publications, has a private space for confidential discussions, and has a computer set up to access the CancerBACUP website. In 2000-2001, the local centres together answered over 9,000 enquiries
