The website saw significant developments during the year.
All CancerBACUP publications are now on the site, and the booklets are presented in a frame-free design to make it easier for users to navigate, and to print the pages.
Extensive work went into developing a Questions and Answers section on the website. An eminent oncologist, working with CancerBACUP’s specialist cancer information nurses, completes answers to questions that are commonly asked, and these are being posted on the site. The plan is that within a year answers to 80% of the questions asked of the Cancer Support Service will be widely available via the website.
The number of visitors to the website continued to increase: up 49% in the year. Sixty thousand individuals visit the website every month, viewing over one million pages. The website was highly commended in the well-respected BMA patient information awards, and also praised in the BMJ and Lancet Oncology – which headlined its article, ‘A great resource for patients and doctors’.
