Chairman's message

Maurice Slevin, MD FRCP Chairman
Maurice Slevin, MD FRCP Chairman

This year we have made sure that the experience of people who use our services is better than ever before, improving, innovating or increasing all of the ways we provide information and support to people affected by cancer. We extended our freephone helpline hours so that more people were able to get through more easily to our team of specialist cancer information nurses. Two new local centres were opened giving more people throughout the country the opportunity to talk to our nurses in person. Our online service increased in popularity, with more than 2.5 million people visiting our website during the year to gain a greater understanding of the disease and how to manage it. Almost a quarter of a million booklets and 9000 factsheets covering all aspects of cancer were distributed during the year.

New partnerships with the NHS and other organisations helped to increase awareness of our services and develop them further, particularly for those people who may have difficulty accessing information and support about cancer. And last but not least, our campaigns and advocacy work made sure that important cancer issues received the public attention they needed, improving cancer services as a result. We’re proud to say that the services we offer to anyone affected by cancer improved significantly during the year and will continue to do so, thanks to your generous support.
