Anal cancers are rare with less than 400 new cases in the UK each year.
Most cancers of the anus start from cells lining the wall of the anus or from skin around the opening of the anus. These cancers are called squamous cell carcinomas.
Basaloid carcinomas of the anus are a less common type of squamous cell carcinoma of the anus. They behave in the same way as other squamous cell cancers of the anus and are treated in the same way.
