There is no evidence for any inherited cause of bile duct cancer. Nor are there any reports that it is more common in some families than others.
This means that if someone develops a cancer of their bile duct the rest of their family is at no greater risk than the general population of developing a similar cancer. As bile duct cancer is quite rare the chances of another family member developing this type of cancer is are very small indeed.
Therefore, bile duct cancer cannot be passed from one generation to the next and the condition does not run in families.
