An astrocytic tumour is a type of brain tumour. It starts in cells in the supportive tissue of the brain. These supporting cells of the brain are called glial cells.
Astrocytes are one type of glial cell and are star-shaped. Astrocytic tumours develop from abnormal astrocytes.
A tumour of the glial cells is called a glioma. Astrocytic tumours are the most common type of glioma.
