I am 60 and have an early prostate cancer. I have been offered a choice between surgery and radiotherapy. Is there any information about these how men feel after these treatments?

Men with early prostate cancer are often offered a choice of treatments. This is good as it allows you to pick the treatment best suited to your circumstances. But, for many men it can also be a difficult decision.

As well as getting information from your doctor it can be helpful to learn about other men’s experiences of these treatments. DIPEx are an organisation dedicated to making patients’ experiences available online. Their website has a section on prostate cancer, where men have recorded their experiences in writing and in videotaped interviews. You can choose to watch or read men talking about how they felt about a variety of treatments including surgery and radiotherapy.

You can find this at www.dipex.org - follow the links to experiences, prostate cancer and treatments.

If you would like to talk with individual men about their own experiences of surgery or radiotherapy this is also possible. Charities such as the Prostate Cancer Support Association and the Prostate Cancer Charity can put you in touch with men who have had these treatments.
