We are a group of black women. One of us has recently been told she has cancer of the womb, which has shaken us. Both I and another of our group have endometriosis, and we wondered if there is any link between endometriosis and womb cancer. Can you reassure us?

Although endometriosis can be a troublesome, and uncomfortable, condition it is completely benign and it is not a cancer. There have been a few research studies which have suggested that endometriosis slightly increases a woman's chances of getting cancer of the womb and ovarian cancer. One of these studies has been widely reported in the press a couple of years back. But other studies have disputed this and so the answer is not really known.
