NEWS > MEDIA CENTRE > PRESS RELEASES & STATEMENTS > 2006 > INEQUALITIES IN ACCESS TO CANCER TREATMENTS MUST NOT CONTINUE, SAYS CANCERBACKUPInequalities in access to cancer treatments must not continue, says Cancerbackup
Cancerbackup issued the following statement in response to today's initial decision by NICE not to approve Bevacizumab (Avastin) and Cetuximab (Erbitux).
"These are important new treatments which offer precious extra time to people with bowel cancer," says Joanne Rule Cancerbackup Chief Executive. "These treatments are widely available in the private health care sector. This is not the final decision from NICE and we hope for a positive outcome to remove the inequalities between those who can afford to pay for treatments and those who can't."
