Always wanted to get fit? Why not join multiple Paralympic gold medallist and London Marathon winner Tanni Grey-Thompson in supporting Cancerbackup’s 10K run and go the extra mile for charity? Registration is open now for the successful Father’s Day 10K run in London’s Regent’s Park on Sunday 15th June which promises to be bigger and better than ever.
The run will raise awareness of male cancers and raise money for Cancerbackup’s information support services for anyone affected by cancer.
In the time it takes most runners to complete the 10K run, 10 more men in the UK will have been diagnosed with cancer. That’s one for every kilometre of the course. Join hundreds of runners, men and women, and raise money for Cancerbackup. You could run as a survivor of cancer yourself, in memory of a loved one or to support a friend or relative going through cancer. So sign up today, get in training and get ready to join in the fun on the day.

“I always think I could overcome any challenge, but when you are faced with cancer you need all the help you can get. That’s why I’m supporting Cancerbackup, as the charity supports thousands of people affected by cancer by providing information and advice. Join me by taking part or sponsoring someone at this event, so that Cancerbackup can reach more people that need their help.”
Kim Hardwick, Senior Nurse at Cancerbackup said: -
“Cancerbackup aims to increase awareness of men’s cancer and encourage men of all ages to visit their doctor straight away if they notice anything unusual. Just as many women check their breasts regularly and report even minor changes, helping early detection of breast cancer; men need to be more aware of their bodies and more willing to get any changes checked out. Early detection of cancer greatly increases the chances of cure, so reporting things such as changes in the appearance or size of moles, any lump or change in the testicles or any bleeding from the bowels or bladder sooner rather than later is vital.”
Kate Shanley, Head of Fundraising at Cancerbackup said: -
“The Cancerbackup father’s day run is a really special day! There’s always lots of fun for everyone involved and it has a serious purpose, which is to support the ten men diagnosed with cancer in the UK every hour. Every penny raised at this event will contribute to delivering Cancerbackup’s information services. It costs twenty-five pounds for one of the charity’s specialist cancer nurses to answer and provide information on Cancerbackup’s freephone helpline. So every penny we raise is put to good use.”
Cancerbackup has more places available this year so there is an opportunity for more runners to help make the day even more successful. Registration is now open for the event at www.cancerbackup.org.uk/fathersday
Runners signed up for the event can access an online running forum with hints and tips on training for the event from other runners, a comprehensive training guide and a fundraising pack giving ideas on how to raise the maximum amount of money from sponsorship.
