My daughter is pregnant and has just been found to have a breast cancer. Has this been caused by the pregnancy?

No, pregnancy has not caused your daughter’s breast cancer.

Cancer in pregnancy is rare. And because it’s rare there aren’t a lot of studies on it. But we know that pregnancy itself doesn’t cause the cancer and pregnant women aren’t more prone to cancer than any other women. The cancers that tend to occur during pregnancy are ones that are commoner in younger women, such as breast cancer. Breast cancer is the commonest cancer found in pregnant women.
