The Department of Health has written guidance about the risks of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in relation to breast cancer.
If you are taking HRT on a short-term basis to relieve menopausal symptoms there is no need to change your treatment. But make sure you see your doctor at least yearly to discuss the risks and benefits of HRT in your situation and whether you should continue with it.
If you are aged 50 or more, and are taking HRT to prevent bone thinning (osteoporosis) and have no menopausal symptoms, arrange an appointment with your GP to see whether an alternative treatment might be more suitable.
If you have had an early menopause and are under the age of 50, and taking HRT, there is no need to change your treatment. But it should be reviewed at least yearly.
If you are in any doubt then make an appointment with your GP to talk over what is best in your situation.
