A man's chances of recovery from breast cancer depend on a number of factors including:
- the stage of the cancer (whether it is in the breast only or has spread to other places in the body)
- its grade
- the type of breast cancer
- whether the cancer has receptors on its surface for the hormone oestrogen (ER positive breast cancer)
- whether the cancer has receptors on its surface for HER2 (HER2 positive)
- the man’s age and general health.
Following an operation to remove the breast tissue and some of the lymph nodes under the arm your father's doctors will be able to assess his chances of being cured by surgery alone. They will then be able to decide what additional treatments will help to increase his chances of cure further.
