My father has recently been told he has a mesothelioma. We are all devastated by the news. Is there an organisation that can offer advice and support?

There are a number of organisations that can offer help and advice to people with mesothelioma and/or their relatives and carers. These include:

  • Leeds Mesothelioma Information Centre. This gives telephone advice for people with mesothelioma, their relatives and carers. It is available on 0113 206 6466 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9.30am to 4pm or e-mail to mavisro@ulth.northy.nhs.uk.
  • Asbestos Related Diseases Association 26 Tollerton Green, Highbury Vale, Nottingham NG6 7EX, telephone 0115 927 5108. This is a self-help group for people with asbestos-related illnesses, including mesothelioma. It offers assistance with counselling, advice on benefits and claims a monthly newsletter, meetings and social activities.
  • The Benefits Agency Benefits Agency has an enquiry line on 0800 882200, the person taking the enquiry will be able to give confidential general advice about claiming and allowances that may be available to people with mesothelioma.
