I am due to have my kidney taken out. How soon after the operation will I be able to start driving again?

Your doctor will be able to advise you about this. But, it usually takes about 4 weeks before you are safe to drive. If you have keyhole surgery (a laparoscopic nephrectomy) you may be able to start driving again sooner than this, about 2 to 3 weeks.

To be able to drive safely is important. You need to be sure that you are able to comfortably stop suddenly in an emergency. You will also need to contact your car insurance provider to check that your insurance covers you to start driving again.
