Each country in the UK has its own rules about who gets free prescriptions. You need to check the rules for the country you live in to find out whether you need to pay or not.
In Wales all NHS prescriptions are free.
In England and in Northern Ireland the booklet HC11 Help with Health Costs explains the rules on who can get free prescriptions. There is more information on the Department of Health website.
In Scotland you will find this information in the booklets HCS1 "Are you entitled to help with health costs?" and HCS2 "A quick guide to help with health costs", on the Scottish government website.
If you need help understanding how these rules apply to you the Citizens Advice Bureau have specially trained advisors who can advise you.
