Cancerbackup Information Centre, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
A cancer information nurse specialist provides cancer information, practical advice and emotional support which is free, independent, confidential and up to date. This service is available to all, including patients, their families, friends and carers, as well as health care professionals.
Our Cancer Information Nurse Specialist can explain and clarify medical terms and give information about all types of cancer and the different treatments used. The nurse can help you cope with the symptoms, side effects and other aspects of cancer.
For people who prefer to use a language other than English, a service called Cancer In Your Language is available at the Cancerbackup Information Centre.
The Cancerbackup Information Centre has a wide range of easy to understand booklets on most cancers and their treatments for you to take away. The information is up to date and includes practical ways of coping with cancer and its emotional effects.
The booklets on individual cancers describe what cancer is, which tests are used in diagnosis and how the cancer is treated, including possible side effects.
They also include sections on the feelings people often experience and ways in which people can help themselves. A reference section suggests organisations to contact for help and support and includes a list of books which may be helpful.
Access to the Internet is available at the Cancerbackup Information Centre. This gives patients the opportunity, for example, to research treatments with the guidance and advice of the nurse.

The Cancerbackup Information Centre is located on the Ground Floor, next to the Oncology Department, on the City Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The hospital is situated a few miles north of Nottingham city centre, by the ring road, and between Hucknall Road, and Edwards Lane.
Leave at Junction 26 taking the A610 to Nottingham City Centre, continuing until junction with Ring Road (A6514). Turn left at traffic lights on to A6514 (Western Boulevard). Continue on A6514 (Ring Road) across next 3 traffic light junctions to Roundabout with A611 (Hucknall Road). Turn left at Roundabout into Hucknall Road and take 2nd entrance on right, into Hospital campus (Entrance no.2) - just before pelican crossing.
Take A46 from Leicester in direction of Newark until junction with A606 from Melton Mowbray. Turn left on to A606 in direction of Nottingham and continue to Roundabout junction with A52 (Ring Road). Take Ring Road to the North (A52) which will be signposted to Derby. At Queen's Medical Centre (about 3 miles from junction of A606 and A52) A52 turns off to Derby - keep following the Ring Road which becomes A6514. Keep following the Ring Road (A6514) until a roundabout junction with A611, Hucknall Road (about 5 miles from where the A52 and A6514 split). Turn left at this roundabout into Hucknall Road and take 2nd entrance on right into Hospital campus (Entrance No.2) - just before pelican crossing.
From Lincoln/Newark take A46 in direction of Leicester. At the Bingham/Saxondale roundabout, take the A52 to Nottingham. Follow the A52 (Ring Road) north. At Queen’s Medical Centre, the A52 turns off to Derby - keep following the Ring Road which becomes A6514. Keep following the Ring Road (A6514) until a roundabout junction with A611, Hucknall Road (about 5 miles from where the A52 and A6514 split). Turn left at this roundabout into Hucknall Road and take 2nd entrance on right into Hospital campus (Entrance No.2) - just before pelican crossing.
Take A60 South from Mansfield in the Direction of Nottingham. Proceed on A 60 through Redhill and Daybrook to junction with Nottingham Ring Road, A6514. Turn right at this traffic light junction on to A6514. Turn right at 1st Roundabout into Edward's Lane. Take 2nd entrance on left into Hospital campus (Entrance no.4)
Take A60 North from Loughborough in the direction of Nottingham to junction with A52 (Nottingham Ring Road). Turn left at roundabout junction on to A52 (Ring Road) in the direction of Derby. At Queen’s Medical Centre (about 3 miles from junction of A60 and A52) A52 turns off to Derby - keep following the Ring Road which becomes A6514. Keep following the Ring Road (A6514) until a roundabout junction with A611, Hucknall Road (about 5 miles from where the A52 and A6514 split). Turn left at this roundabout into Hucknall Road and take 2nd entrance on right into Hospital campus (Entrance No.2) - just before pelican crossing.
Take A52 in direction of Nottingham (Derby). Follow the A52 (Ring Road) north. At Queen's Medical Centre, the A52 turns off to Derby - keep following the Ring Road which becomes A6514. Keep following the Ring Road (A6514) until a roundabout junction with A611, Hucknall Road (about 5 miles from where the A52 and A6514 split). On arrival at Nottingham Train Station, there is a taxi rank. The Hospital campus is approximately three miles from Nottingham City Centre.
