Research trials about follow-up

For some types of cancer, it is not clear whether regular tests and appointments are helpful once treatment has ended. Your doctor or research nurse may ask you to take part in a trial to see whether tests and regular appointments at the hospital are necessary. You may see your GP instead. Your doctor or research nurse will give you information about any trials that may be relevant for you, and they will explain what is involved. You can choose not to take part in a trial, and this will not affect your doctor’s attitude towards you.

Macmillan Cancer Support have recently started a major study to explore the needs of people after treatment. Your doctor or research nurse may talk to you about taking part in this.

Our section on understanding cancer research trials explains clinical trials in more detail.
