Help on searching

Here are questions we are asked most often about searching the site.

How does the search work?

The search lists all the page that contain the word or phrase you type in. It searches the title of the document, the description, and the text, and lists them accordingly. For instance, you would find a page where the word appears very often in the text above one where it is only mentioned in the description.

There are too many results listed. How can I narrow them down?

You may find that you are presented with hundreds of results following a search if you are looking for a particularly common term. You may be able to refine your search by thinking about what exactly you are interested in. For instance, chemotherapy will bring up all the pages where chemotherapy is mentioned, but fertility chemotherapy will list all the pages either of those words appear on, listing first those page where the two terms appear on one page.
